As I sit in the Frankfurt airport waiting for our flight back to Toronto my brain is all over the place. The next seven weeks of our lives are booked and I’m excited for the adventures to come. Yet, I can’t stop thinking about the adventures we’ve been through in the first three weeks of this offseason. Good thing I’m an expert at thinking about multiple things at once. I’ve got about 650 photos to go through and that’s after the first cut! Can’t even imagine how many there were originally. But before I get started on that I suppose I should explain how we ended up in Europe in the first place.
I had mentioned to a few people that our goal during the offseason was for Justin to get some exposure to training with a European team. Thanks to TFC, we were able to do just that. Although we had been hoping to get the opportunity for a while, in the football world, not much happens with a lot of time in advance, for some that might be unsettling, but it teaches you how to handle uncertainty and be prepared for last minute decisions, last minute trips, and quick changes. Anyway, we had confirmation of our trip and what team we would be visiting on a Monday and Thursday of that same week we were on a plane to Germany, hence the lack of a heads up on my part.
I want to clarify that the training stint was just that. It was an opportunity for Justin to gain some experience playing in another country and exposure to a different style of football (see an interview of his experience here).
Anyway, back to our adventure…I’ve decided that the best way to tell you all about our trip is by splitting it up by city visited and using the photos to tell the story. Each photo album will include some of the interesting historical facts we’ve learned as well as anecdotes and random things that happened through out the trip. I hope you enjoy the pictures! And of course like always any questions are welcome :)
