I will eternally be grateful for the month of October. I had never sat down to think about it, but even though July is my favorite month of the year, mostly because it’s when I was born and back home it’s “winter” which basically it’s the equivalent of the Northern Hemisphere’s autumn, October is fighting strong to become my other favorite month of the year. What’s there to love so much about October? Probably better ask what’s not to love?!
Let me start with the fact that three of my favorite people in the world were born in October (this excludes family and I don’t mean to offend anyone). I’m talking about people who have been in my life through the good times and bad times despite not being actual family, that regardless of where I was in the world, regardless of the time of day, they were always ready to talk, listen to me when I needed to vent, text to catch up at ridiculous hours of the night and just laugh and be goofy with me. People who have been by my side (not always physically) for years and who despite of the changes we each went as we grew up we only became closer instead of letting our “new differences” bring us apart. Let me introduce to you my three best friends: Candela Zurbriggen, Casey Robinson, and Justin Morrow (now also my husband).
October is the epitome of Autumn and ohhh boy do I love this season. It’s just gorgeous outside all the time. The air is crisp, it’s not too cold where you’re uncomfortable and have to wear a big jacket, but it’s not too hot either, it’s perfect sweater weather. The leaves change colors and while back home they went to mostly to yellow or brown, up here I get to see the whole spectrum from yellow to red to purple. It’s just so beautiful all around, every time I walk out the door I fall in love with the world again. All of the sudden I want to be outside even when it’s cloudy.
Then there’s the food. Pumpkin everything, pumpkin spice everything, an infinite variety of squashes to pick from at the store, butternut squash soup is now always on the menu, drinking hot chocolate is basically a requirement, and above all people put out candy everywhere. For those who might not know me or remember this I love candy. Halloween is in October and people feel like having candy around is not only acceptable but encouraged. Everywhere I go I can get free candy and that is simply awesome and by the way in my book candy is calorie free and healthy (except for your teeth, but you can brush those).
Delicious food, awesome weather, and celebrating the people I love all happen in October! There are so many more reasons I could go and on for pages, but I’m getting the urge to go outside for a walk and a pumpkin spice latte now. So, let me know what you think! What’s your favorite month? Do you love October? Or if you’re in the South (shout out to my lovely family and friends in South America) do you love the autumn? Or do you still love October cause it’s springtime? Let me know :)
