Last week was insane. I developed this strong urge to "get everything ready" for when the baby gets here. I was cleaning, reorganizing, washing clothes, ironing, and any household activity you can imagine like crazy. Of course, we dismissed this strange behaviour as a case of late "nesting instinct". For those who are not familiar with the terminology:

Nesting instinct refers to an instinct or urge in pregnant animals to prepare a home for the upcoming newborn(s). It is found in a variety of animals (both mammals and birds) including humans. In human females, the nesting instinct often occurs around the fifth month of pregnancy, but some intuitive mothers can start as early as a couple of weeks and can occur as late as the eighth month, or not at all. It may be strongest just before the onset of labor. It is commonly characterized by a strong urge to clean and organize one's home and is one reason why couples who are expecting a baby often reorganize, arrange, and clean the house and surroundings.

So by definition, this behaviour seemed normal. Yet, once I started running out of things to do I started to plan the "reorganization" and "clean out" of some very questionable things, such as: laundry closet, bathroom storage, under the sink in the kitchen which made me realize, this isn't about baby anxiety, this is about something else. Something bigger than baby's arrival. Indeed it was. Sitting in the bottom right hand corner, starred, but minimized was a CPE (continuing professional education) course on accounting ethics. It had been there ready to pay for and be taken for two weeks. Oops.

Here's how it works: in order to maintain my CPA licenses active, every three years I need to take 120 credit hours of continuing professional education courses in diverse accounting topics. This year, I was done with all 120 credits by end of may. Unfortunately, I had forgotten about the one little requirement, four of those need to be in ethics. Anyway, I've been so mad at myself for forgetting that requirement and celebrating being done that I've also been procrastinating the course for what is now a full three months. And what better excuse could I have than getting the place ready for baby's arrival? Anyway, I finally gave in today, bought the course and hopefully will be done with it by end of Thursday. Although I'm feeling a bit behind since my license expires at the end of the month, it's only a four hour course and on the bright side everything is ready for Baby Morrow :) check out this cute little nest we put together for her:
