First and most important I should start out by saying that for those who haven’t heard or seen Justin and I are very excited to announce that we are expecting a baby girl beginning of September!! (if you haven’t seen the announcement check it out below)
Since we’ve shared the news with family and friends we’ve received nothing but loads of love, supportive messages, and very sweet reactions. I’m not going to lie, in the beginning we went through a roller coaster of emotions, we were excited one moment, worried the next. After all, it’s been just us two for almost 8 years now! But in time the fears subsided and as the news was less ‘new’ news, we realized that it’s not just us two but a whole community of family and friends all over the world who are anxiously awaiting her arrival. Now I can say that only excitement and anticipation remains.
Our world is about to change, it’s about to take a whole new twist and here are the things that I’m most excited for:
Rediscovering the world
I don’t know about you, but one of my favorite expressions to see on people’s faces is the excitement when they learn/discover something new. I see it in Justin so often, when I tell him about something I grew up with in South America whether it be a cultural thing or a particular food. Some people grow out of freely expressing their joy for learning and discovering, some people don’t get a thrill out of it. I love it and I love seeing a person’s eyes sparkle when they are enlightened. I am beyond excited to be able to see this reaction on our baby girl’s face. A baby’s first years is all about discovering the world through their senses. From the joys of their first bite of ice cream, to their first experience with a lemon. I just cannot wait to have an unlimited access to watching her discover the world and through her getting a chance to relive the simplest joys and wonders of life. I’m beyond excited to have a daily reminder that sometimes the most beautiful experiences come from the most basic things in life.
Never a dull moment
Oh there will never be a dull moment again! If she’s anything like her parents were when we were kids, this baby girl is going to be a hyperactive, energetic, chatterbox, little trouble maker. Justin loved to challenge his parents, he was a nice boy and very loving, but he was always running around, climbing places, and pushing the boundaries (no surprise he got to where he is today). I acted a bit more within the “rules” but I was one hyperactive little chatter box. I mean, there’s this video where I’m running around and yelling at my brother’s birthday party and even my little friends are shouting at me to shut up. Even my mom had to ask me to shut up constantly because I was just non stop go go go. So yea, chances are she’ll be crazy too! But I’m not scared about it and I’m not worried, I’m just beyond excited. That just means, we’ll have so much fun and never have a dull moment. Not that our lives up to now haven’t been exciting. One of the things that often comes up in our convos with Justin is how grateful we are all for the opportunities life has given us, the support we’ve received to achieve everything have in both our careers and personally, and also how lucky we are to have not only each other but our family and friends. Our lives have been nothing but exciting, but the type of excitement and entertainment I am looking forward is the innocent play of a child, letting our imaginations run wild and free again, living each moment to the fullest appreciating as I said before, the simplest things that make life so amazing.
Playing playing playing
I am so so so excited to play like a kid again. I mean, we already do this quite often. I sometimes joke that living in the world of athletes is a little bit like living with kids and I mean it in a good way. Since a huge part of their job depends on their health a bulk of the guys we hang out with have pretty healthy habits and also what we consider entertainment is quite different from the regular 20-30 year old. Our default weekend plans are not to go out drinking and partying. More often, we play board games, watch movies, go out for ice cream or desserts. We enjoy the outdoors, we play catch, ball, sports, honestly while we do all this we behave like kids and it is so so much fun. Well now this will be an even bigger part of our lives and I’m thrilled to have that happy child play as part of my daily routine. I’m excited to play with her, watch her play with Justin, and above all teaching her that the happiness that comes from it doesn’t have to go away as the years go by.
So these are the things I’ve been most excited about :) thought I’d put them down into words especially so I can revisit them if and when there are any tough days. In the mean time, I expect my future blogs to be a combo of news and updates on our family but also will continue to write about all the other things going on in my life and mind, because for those who know me and my A.D.D. brain, of course I still have a billion other things to talk about!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
