
Although it's not a color on the Dutch flag, their national color is Orange. It was chosen after William I of Orange helped them fight and become independent during the Eighty Years' War (super summarized history). The first flag that they could raise as independent territory was orange as such was the color of William's banner.
Fun Fact: Carrots originally existed only in the yellow, purple, and red tones (inside they were orange). It is said that the Dutch, in order to honor the Dutch Royal House Orange, cross bred red and yellow carrots to obtain the orange ones we now consider normal!
