Pictures - Hamburg, Germany

First of four churches we visited in Hamburg - Saint Peter's Cathedral (St. Petri). It was constructed by Pope Leo X but today it is a Protestant Cathedral and forms part of the Evangelical Lutheran congregation of Germany. Like many of the churches in Germany it suffered fires and bombings and very little of the original is left. In fact, the only original thing left is the lion head door handle we see in this picture. Although, it doesn't look much like a lion because the hired architect in that day had never seen a lion in his life!
