Pictures - Hamburg, Germany

Prior to the existence of the warehouse district, there were no import/export taxes in Hamburg. When these were imposed, the law was very detailed and mentioned that taxes were to be imposed on goods imported on the north port of the river. Well, in response to this law, people were witty and they developed a new port South of the river known as the warehouse district. This new port was a savvy way of avoiding taxes. However, it was abandoned and destroyed during WWII. Today it has been restored and it houses several interesting and fun museums including the pirate museum, the miniature museum, and a coffee museum.
